There’s nothing quite like clean air!
A good air purifier is indispensable to allergy sufferers, people susceptible to air-borne illnesses and anyone wanting clean, fresh air in their home. One model that’s been receiving some positive attention lately is the IQAir HealthPro Plus.
We gave it an up-close look and our in-depth review reveals if it’s all it’s cracked up to be or if you should keep searching.
IQAir HealthPro Plus Review/Rating
IQAir represents over 50 years of research and development in the air purifier industry. The IQAir company, which manufactures its units in Switzerland, has enjoyed recognition and approval from several organizations, including the American Lung Association.
In 2005, IQAir launched a line of whole-house air purification systems. Their signature product, however, is the IQAir HealthPro Plus, which is a whole room air purifier designed to clean the air and eliminate odors in rooms of up to 900 square feet. For some people, like myself, this is not much smaller than the main areas of our home.
The HealthPro Plus carries a price tag of $899.00 and features a state-of-art filtration system in a four-level stack design. It filters out ultrafine particles down to 0.003 microns and up to 99.5% of all particulates.
The unit has patented HyperHEPA® filtration, making it much more effective than others with standard HEPA filtration – 100 times more, in fact.
It’s somewhat bulky, though, at 28 inches high, 15 inches wide and 16 inches deep, weighing just over 35 pounds. It is, however, very portable thanks to its incorporated handle and four casters.
The ultra-quiet fan on the HealthPro Plus is approved for non-stop use. It sucks in air at the base of the unit and after purification, pushes it out at the top and sides using a 320° EvenFlow™ diffuser.
Don’t be fooled by this unit’s large size and air cleaning power, as the HealthPro Plus is a very energy efficient. Its a power consumption is comparable to that of a conventional light bulb.
The HealthPro Plus is programmable (in four languages) allowing you to set specific operating days and hours, as well as fan speed. Settings are displayed on the LED display which also helps you track usage of each filter. Conveniently, the
HeathPro Plus is sold with a simple, easy-to-use remote control.
What we really liked
First thing we liked was how well the IQAir HealthPro Plus works at helping to control allergens and odors in the air. In our home, we have two young children with dust and animal allergies and a dog. We’ve been using the HealthPro Plus for three months now and the difference has been astounding.
Reactions have stayed muted, and most encouraging of all the house just smells much “cleaner”. You notice it the second you walk in and for that alone we found the IQAir HealthPro Plus worth every penny.
The unit is also REALLY quiet – a whole lot quieter than we’ve found other air purifiers to be.
Comparison
We checked out two other room air purifiers that have somewhat similar area coverage.
With prices beginning at $599, the Chinese-made Alen BreatheSmart Customizable Air Purifier can handle rooms of up to 1100 square feet. Its design includes detecting air quality and adjusting its operation to match. You get choice of filter and one of 15 front panel designs including one you can custom paint.
The Rabbit Air MinusA2 Ultra Quiet HEPA Air Purifier gives between 700 and 815 square feet of room coverage. Prices for the Korean made Rabbit Air MinusA2 start at $499.95 and depend on the filter and room coverage chosen. Other options you have include casing color – black or white.
While both the Alen BreatheSmart and the Rabbit Air MinusA2 are slightly cheaper than the IQAir HealthPro Plus, with the Alen BreatheSmart also giving greater room overage – both units use far smaller filters, make more noise and will require filters to be changed more quickly.
The filters are not only smaller on these machines, but over-all much thinner. These units cannot clean the air of smells near the ability of the HealthPro Plus because the IQAir unit uses their patented V5-Cell Charcoal filter design, which uses denser diagonally-oriented charcoal pellets to scrub all odor from the air.
Verdict
In our home, we’ve used so many different HEPA air filter systems. From Honeywell to Winix. No more.
Put simply, the iQAir HealthPro Plus is the one to get.
If you’re looking for maximum air purification and you’re willing to pay more for a much better solution, then the IQAir HealthPro Plus is the one for you.
We’ll just leave you with this amazing video:
