In today’s modern world no new home owner or remodeler should be installing an old tank water heater. The changes in the tankless water heater area have increased tenfold in the last decade, and there has never been a better time to put one in your home. Now while tank water heaters do save money up front, they are so inefficient with energy that it is a wonder why tankless water heaters haven’t been more widely accepted in the United States (Most European countries started installing them years ago). There are many different tankless water heaters to pick from but one of the standout whole house electric tankless water heaters is the Bosch AE-115 PowerStar.

The Bosch AE-115 is the perfect heater for a small family house. Being a tankless water heater, it only uses electricity when hot water is needed, which cuts back on all of the electricity tank water heaters use to keep water hot when you are sleeping or at work. This heater can give you a flow rate of about 2.5 gallons a minute and a temperature increase of around 45 degrees. Now while this is a significant increase for warmer areas of the country, if you live in a colder area you will definitely want to consider a larger unit. 2.5 gallons is around the amount needed to take a shower, and with this Bosch unit you can shower for hours without losing hot water. As the water is only heated up as it is needed, and it never runs out.

This unit is about a fourth of the size of a regular tank water heater, and can be installed with relative ease in the same location as the old heater. Many people elect to install an expansion tank with it to alleviate pressure, but that is not required. Since this Bosch unit is electric, it does not have to be vented out of the house like the gas units do.  This unit also requires a 240v plug, which is becoming standard in most modern houses, but is often harder to come by in older houses. This unit is designed with one of Bosch’s more recent innovations, heating units that are proportional to demand. These heating units are only activated as additional demand is needed so they save far more electricity than even many other tankless water heaters. Believe me; this unit will save you a lot of money on your electricity bill. Many states also give out tax credits for updating to new green products such as this Bosch tankless water heater.

I know that having a tankless water heater is one of the best changes that you can make for both your pocket book and the environment. The Bosch AE-115 is the perfect product to start the savings today!

Pros: Highly efficient, only uses electricity when needed, good flow rate for a shower.

Cons:  Smaller unit, would not be very effective in cold weather or heavy water demand houses (multiple showers at the same time), must have 240v
