Immersion blenders are rarely talked about on Food Network or Cooking Channel. They aren’t glamorous or sophisticated. But ask any chef for a list of a things they wouldn’t leave home without – and I can guarantee it will make the cut.

It’s such a versatile appliance due to the sheer simplicity. You can feel through the stick your blending and adjust to suit your needs. Sometimes analog is just better.

The Cuisinart CSB-100 Immersion Blender

Cuisinart Immersion Blender Review

My wife uses an immersion blender appliance two to three times a week, and recently her trusty Viking immersion blender blew up. We got it as a wedding present 9 years ago and it had certainly fulfilled its duty long before it decided to retire. Unfortunately, Viking is no longer in the business of making counter-top appliances, so we did what any other millennial would do in this situation: we went to Amazon and started reading reviews.

That is how we’ve come to own this Cuisinart Immersion Blender. After putting it through its paces the past few months we decided now is as good a time as any to do a quick write up of how the unit functions in the real world.

The Cuisinart comes with many attachments

Let’s start with the features

  • One Touch On/Off Button: Allows you to activate the hand blender at the touch of a button. Simply press and hold down the Low or High button to blend or pulse. Once the button is released, blending will stop.
  • Comfort Handle: The handle allows you to control the hand blender with ease.
  • Motor Body Housing: A powerful 200-watt motor operates with an easy one-touch control.
  • Detachable Shaft: By pressing the release button on the back of the unit, the shaft will detach for easy cleaning.
  • Blending Attachment with Stainless Steel Blade and Blade Guard: This attachment easily snaps into the motor body housing. The stainless blade is partially covered by a stainless housing that keeps splashing to a minimum.
  • Mixing Beaker: 2-Cup mixing beaker is microwave-safe and dishwasher-safe. Use this container to blend drinks, shakes, salad dressings and more. Designed for easy gripping and drip-free pouring.

Things we liked

Most immersion blenders on the market in the price range still require a cord, and while this does make us long for a cordless variant, this particular model provides a long cord of more than ample length.

The housing is sturdy and the blades are SHARP. While there are metal flanges that protect the spinning blade, even those are quite sharp and so one must be careful not to jam the blending wand all the way against the bottom of the pot. If you aren’t careful you can scratch your non-stick coating.

Main blender pulse button

Child safety lock.

The warranty is another big draw on this appliance. The Cuisinart unit comes with a 3 year limited warranty, which is very generous for an appliance under the $100 price tag.

Things we didn’t like

The “child-proof ” design is quite annoying at first. In order to fire up the blade you must push both the button on the top of the want and the switch on the sides, making it a two hand job just to fire up the blender.

While we understand that an immersion blender is an innately dangerous object, its a tool that serves a purpose. There must be a smarter way to “child proof” the appliance while still allowing us to start it easily with one hand.

Conclusion

Cuisinart still impresses in the value for money department. When compared with far more expensive blenders like the Bamix GL200 Immersion Blender or the Kitchenaid Pro Cordless Immersion Blender it provides 90% of the features of these two high-end blenders, at half the cost.

The Cuisinart CSB-100 Immersion Blender currently sells for $89.
